Divine Tragedy

Metin Celik (1985-Adana,TR)
"Anti-camouflage", 2018, installation for a specific space, sculpture, painting
"Anti-camouflage" project which focuses on militarist values and practices, shutting society within a sensation of passiveness with each passing day, along with other concepts such as the ruling power, nationalism, racism, sexism, opposite sexism, and theology, consists of specific space installations that include sculpture, painting and wallpaper. In order to clearly define the physical frame of this installation designed for the 4th International Mardin Biennial, three walls and the floor will be covered with electric blue wallpaper. At the center of this well defined space is a giant sculpture of a gilded fist evidencing the destruction it has brought about by its strong pounding of the floor. The figures appearing in the painting behind the sculpture, almost melt into the surface as though they are about to disappear between the two walls. The artificial canal created by the concrete walls, defines in a social, cultural, economic and psychological context, a space where "man" is "trapped" within every kind of systematic mechanism employed by the ruling power.
